It was our first road trip to Spiti Valley from Chennai. We started from Chennai to first get darshan at Shri Kedarnath Dham for which we were waiting for lives. From there our plan was to visit Spiti Valley. We took the below route to reach Kaza which was the final destination to take a halt and from there you can visit the Spiti Valley’s other beautiful tourist places.
We planned to travel to Manali from Kaza – Manali route but it was closed due to snow. There are high-altitude passes where snow was cleared at that time so it was closed. This route is one of the most adventurous routes for any road trip enthusiast.
Best Time to Visit Spiti Valley?
The best time to visit Spiti Valley is from May to October, as the weather during this period is pleasant and ideal for outdoor activities. The winter months, from November to April, are extremely cold and the roads are often blocked due to snowfall.

- By Train: The nearest railway station to Spiti Valley is Shimla or Joginder Nagar Railway Station which is 360 kilometers away from the valley. From the station, you can take a taxi or bus to reach Spiti Valley. The journey by road takes around 8-10 hours.
- Self-Drive: If you are an adventure seeker and love to explore new places on your own, you can consider self-driving to Spiti Valley. However, self-driving in Spiti Valley can be challenging due to the rugged terrain and high-altitude passes.
